DAY 02 LIMA, CITY OF THE KINGS, CULTURE AND TRADITIONS
DAY 02 LIMA, CITY OF THE KINGS, CULTURE AND TRADITIONS

In the morning, we'll visit the City of Kings. We'll begin our tour in the Miraflores district. Our first stop will be the famous Kissing Park, a city icon offering a beautiful view of Lima Bay. Next, we'll head to the Historic Center of Lima, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, steeped in history. Along the way, we'll pass by Huaca Pucllana, a pre-Incan pyramid that resembles a modern city. We'll arrive at Lima's Plaza Mayor, surrounded by the Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace, the Government Palace, and the City Hall. We'll enter the Cathedral of Lima, where the crypt of the conquistador Francisco Pizarro is located. We'll cross the Plaza Mayor and enter the Convent of Santo Domingo, a colonial architectural gem where time seems to have stood still. Here lie the remains of Saint Rose of Lima, Saint Martin de Porres, and Saint John Macias, saints of great devotion. Inside, we'll find a large library housing books printed in the 15th century. The first university in the Americas, San Marcos, was founded in this convent. We'll leave downtown Lima and return to the hotel. We suggest reserving a table at one of Lima's most prestigious restaurants. In the afternoon, we'll visit the Larco Museum, where we'll gain a clear understanding of the cultures that inhabited ancient Peru. We'll be amazed by the gold pieces, textiles, and erotic ceramics that are part of the collection, introducing us to the worldview of the ancient Peruvians. The museum's storage area will be open during our visit, allowing us to appreciate the artistic expressions found on their ceramics. Our next stop will be an old pisco bar in the Pueblo Libre neighborhood. We'll sample a Chilcano, a pisco cocktail, and a classic butifarra sausage. Afterward, we'll head to the Magic Water Circuit, a park of ornamental fountains that create a marvelous spectacle of color and fantasy.
