SUMMER LEGENDS IN ICELAND - ARCTIC LIGHT

In the morning, we will head west, passing through the village of Borgarnes, where we will stop to get to know this small and beautiful Icelandic village with less than 2,000 inhabitants. We will continue our tour and, along the way, we will make another stop to climb up to the crater of the Grábrók volcano. Lunch at a local restaurant. We will continue our journey north with a stop at the Víðimýri church, hidden in Skagafjörður, in the north of Iceland. This beautiful old church is a true masterpiece of traditional Icelandic architecture. We will continue our tour through mountainous landscapes of great beauty, until we reach the area of ​​Akureyri, the capital of northern Iceland. After checking in at the hotel, we will take a walking tour with the Tour Leader through the charming town of 17 thousand inhabitants where we will be able to enjoy the panoramic view of the Eyjafjörður fjord, complemented by a visit to the botanical garden.

In the morning, drive to Goðafoss, the waterfall of the Gods, where we will stop to enjoy its beauty. Then, we will pass by the pseudo-craters and, shortly after, continue to Lake Mývatn where we will stop at the beautiful panoramic observation point of the lake. Lunch at a local restaurant. Visit of the hot springs of Námaskarð, a geothermal area. See the natural muddy pools that bubble and release sulphurous vapours. We will continue eastwards through the highlands, a sparsely inhabited area with lunar landscapes: with luck we will be able to see the arctic fox or the reindeer. We will also stop at the Dettifoss waterfalls, one of the most powerful in Europe and one of the most voluminous in Iceland. At 45 metres high and 100 metres wide, this waterfall is a must-see when passing through the north of the island. We will arrive at Hallormsstadur National Forest, considered the largest forest in Iceland.

In the morning, we will leave for the south of the island, following a panoramic route along the coast and the fjords: we will see landscapes of incredible beauty! We will stop in the small town of Djúpivogur, where only 357 people live. The trip continues southwards. We will now travel along the southern part of the majestic Vatnajökull glacier, the largest in Europe.

Lunch at a local restaurant. We will arrive at Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon where icebergs float and where we can visit the diamond beach, a name that originates from the fact that the sand is full of fragments and orbs of ice that shine like diamonds. This ice descends from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier and its slow melting makes it float, which results in the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. We will walk along the black sand beach and maybe even see seals, which are common in this part of the Arctic. Before reaching our destination, we will make one more stop in Hofn, where we will see the remarkable Hof Church, built in 1883, which is now part of the National Museum of Iceland. Finally we will head to our hotel located in the Kálfafell area.

We will continue our tour along the panoramic route along the southern region, admiring the magnificent landscapes and small villages that appear along the way. The first stop will be at the famous 2-million-year-old gorge, Fjadrárgljúfur. Next, we will stop in Vik, where we will get to know the small village and visit the black beach of Reynisfjara, famous for its dangerous waves and also for having been the setting for some filming of the American series: "Game of Thrones". Lunch at a local restaurant.

We will continue our tour and make a stop at the beautiful Skógafoss waterfall, one of the largest in the country, with a width of 25 meters and a 60-meter cascade. The long waterfall causes a lot of spray, and on sunny days you can see the rainbow - have your camera ready. Legend has it that the first Viking settler in the region buried a treasure in the cave behind this waterfall. We will continue our journey to Selfoss, making another stop, this time at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. This waterfall is part of the Seljalands River that originates in the Eyjafjallajökull volcanic glacier. After this last visit we will continue to our hotel.

Today we will set out on the Golden Circle route, a 300-kilometer tour that visits Iceland's three most popular natural attractions: Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall. We will start with a visit to Gulfoss, meaning golden waterfall, one of the most beautiful in Iceland, falling 32 meters in two layers into the Hvita River Gorge. We will continue to the geothermal area, the Geyser Park, a hot spring paradise in the Haukadalur Valley. We will be able to observe the Strokkur geyser, its explosion every five to ten minutes raising a column of boiling water to heights that can reach more than 40 meters. The Strokkur activity guarantees a perfect photo of the hot springs in action when you visit the valley. The surrounding area is dotted with various fumaroles, hot springs, and mud pits.

We will continue our journey to the Golden Circle's biggest attraction - Thingvellir National Park. Lunch at a local restaurant. Iceland's national assembly, which eventually became a parliament, was founded on this site in 930 and remained there until 1798, before moving to Reykjavik. This makes the site original to what is now the world's oldest existing legislature. It was also the ceremonial site of Iceland's declaration of independence in 1944 and the appointment of Iceland's first president.

Thingvellir is located in a valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This means that the area is full of dramatic cliffs, rushing rivers and deep gorges. It is one of the few places in the world where it is possible to walk between the two intercontinental plates.

In the morning we will embark on the famous whale watching excursion. Here you can observe a natural spectacle of birds and marine life, including minke whales, humpback whales, dolphins, porpoises, among other species. On this excursion aboard one of the largest whale watching boats in Iceland, you will be accompanied by an expert guide who will tell you about these fantastic species throughout a 3-hour tour. After this activity, we will take an approx. 1-hour walking tour of the city with the Tour Leader, before having lunch on our own. After lunch, we will continue with the panoramic tour of Reykjavik. Iceland's capital surprises with its picturesque, vibrantly colored coastal houses, unique boutiques, and reminders of the country's Viking history on every corner. In a city of only 215,000 inhabitants, Reykjavik is calm, whimsical, historic and artistic. We will pass by the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church in the heart of the city. Reykjavik is a mecca of impressive architectural and cultural elements. You will feel the deep roots of Viking history mixed with the contemporary energy of modern creativity. We will continue our journey to the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal space with waters with healing properties. Free time at the Lagoon where you can enjoy a relaxing and purifying bath (towel included, mud mask and a drink of your choice). Immerse yourself in the warm waters of the lagoon while you enjoy how the sun takes its time to set, on the bright days characteristic of this fascinating region of the world. At the end of this experience, we return to Reykjavik.
