WINTER LEGENDS IN ICELAND - AURORA BOREALIS

Arrival in Iceland's capital and transfer with Flybus Plus depending on the arrival flight.

In the morning, departure to the North. There we will stop in Borgarnes, a small Icelandic village of less than 2000 inhabitants. We will continue our tour, and make another stop to climb the crater of the Grábrók volcano, located to the north of Borgarfjörður. Lunch at a local restaurant.

We will continue to the church of Víðimýri, hidden in Skagafjörður, in the North of Iceland. This beautiful old church is a true masterpiece of traditional Icelandic architecture. Continuing on, we will see beautiful mountain landscapes until we reach the capital of North Iceland: Akureyri. After checking in at the hotel, a walking tour with the Tour Leader through the charming village of 17 thousand inhabitants where we will be able to enjoy the panoramic view of the Eyjafjörður fjord, complemented by a visit to the botanical garden.

In the morning, we will travel to Goðafoss, known as the waterfall of the gods and part of the Diamond Circle. We will continue to Mývatn where we will stop at the beautiful panoramic viewpoint of the lake. Lunch at a local restaurant. We will visit the hot springs of Námaskarð, a geothermal area full of hot springs and fumaroles. On the way to our hotel, we will stop at the Dettifoss waterfalls, one of the most powerful in Europe and the most powerful in Iceland. With 45 meters high and 100 meters wide, it is a must-see when passing through the North of the island. We will arrive at the Hallormsstadur National Forest, considered the largest forest in Iceland.

In the morning we will leave for the south of the island, following a panoramic route along the coast and the fjords, where we will see landscapes of incredible beauty. We will make a stop in the small town of Djúpivogur, where only 357 people live. We will continue our journey along the southern edge of the Vatnajökull glacier, the largest in Europe.

Lunch at a local restaurant. We will arrive at Jökulsárlón, a glacial lagoon with floating icebergs, the product of the melting of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. We will also visit Diamond Beach, where we will walk along the black sand and perhaps even manage to spot seals, common in this part of the island. Before reaching our destination, we will make one more stop in Hof, where we will visit the Church built in 1883 and which is now part of the National Museum of Iceland.

We will continue our tour of the southern region, admiring the magnificent landscapes and small towns that appear along the route. The first stop will be at Fjadrárgljúfur, an imposing canyon that is 100 meters deep and more than two kilometers long. Next, we will stop in Vik, to visit the famous black sand beach of Reynisfjara, famous for its dangerous waves and for having been one of the locations of the famous show “Game of Thrones”. Lunch at a local restaurant. We will continue our tour and make a stop at the beautiful Skógafoss waterfall, one of the largest in the country, with a width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters. Legend has it that the first Viking settler in the region buried a treasure in the cave behind this waterfall, and today it is one of the most famous spots in Iceland to take a photo. We will continue our journey to Selfoss, visiting Seljalandsfoss. This waterfall is part of the Seljalands River that originates in the Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

Today we will set off on the Golden Circle route, a 300-kilometre path that visits Iceland's three most popular natural attractions: Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall. We will start the tour there, to admire this wonderful 32-metre-high waterfall that is divided into two falls. Lunch at a local restaurant.

We will continue to Geysir, where we will be able to see Strokkur in action, an active geyser that erupts every 4-8 minutes, raising a column of boiling water to heights that can reach more than 40 metres. Strokkur's intense activity ensures that you can film or photograph the moment of the eruption. The surrounding area is dotted with various fumaroles, hot springs and mud pits.

We will continue our journey to the biggest attraction of the Golden Circle: Thingvellir National Park. This natural attraction is unique in the world, as you can walk on the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia. The National Park was also the site of the first Icelandic parliament, founded in 930.

In the morning we will embark on the famous Whale Watching excursion. Here you will be able to observe a natural spectacle of birds and marine life, including minke whales, humpback whales, dolphins, porpoises, among other species. On this tour aboard one of the largest whale watching boats in Iceland, you will be accompanied by a specialized guide who will tell you about these fantastic species throughout the 3-hour tour. After this activity, we will take an approx. 1-hour walking tour of the city with Tour Leader. In the afternoon, we will continue with the panoramic tour of Reykjavik. Iceland's capital surprises with its picturesque, vibrantly colored coastal houses, unique boutiques, and reminders of the country's Viking history at every turn. In a city of only 215,000 inhabitants, Reykjavik is quiet, historic, and artistic. We will pass by the emblematic Hallgrímskirkja church. Reykjavik is a mecca of impressive architectural and cultural elements. You will feel the deep roots of Viking history mixed with the contemporary energy of modern creativity. We will continue our tour to the Blue Lagoon - a geothermal space with waters with healing properties. Free time at the Lagoon where you can enjoy a relaxing and cleansing bath (towel included, mud mask and drink of your choice).

If we are lucky, we will be able to observe the Northern Lights while we bathe in the warm waters of the lagoon. At the end of this experience, we return to Reykjavik.
